The Yoga Teacher's Almanac

12 Months of Guided Yoga Inspiration

The Yoga Teacher’s Almanac is a month-by-month online resource for yoga teachers which they can dip into to find inspiration for yoga practices, meditations, affirmations, breathing practices, inspirational quotes, readings, ideas for class themes, and handouts.

The Almanac aims to help teachers to connect with their own Inner Wisdom through exercises, meditation questions and other prompts.

The Almanac will be a space where yoga teachers can find a place of sanctuary and be nurtured and nourished. Teachers will be encouraged to water and feed the garden that is their own home yoga practice.

Teachers will also have the option of sharing ideas, discussing obstacles, and resolving problems with other teachers. And we can cheer each other on in our successes!

Each of the twelve-monthly modules could be counted as ongoing professional development

Reignite Your Passion for Teaching!

When inspiration has run dry…

When you are teaching yoga classes week-in, week-out, your inspiration can sometimes run dry. The Almanac will help you to overcome yoga lesson planning blocks and tap into a deep well of creative inspiration. The Almanac provides a treasure-chest of ready-made yoga resources, but more importantly you will get into the habit of generating your own inspirational course material. You will be encouraged to approach lesson/course planning in a way that is fun, stimulating, self-nourishing, and tops up your energy rather than depleting it.

You’re suffering from burnout…

As a yoga teacher your aim is to create yoga sessions for your students that leave them feeling energised, relaxed, and full of the joys of life. However, it’s easy to neglect your own yoga practice and end up feeling burned out. When you’re teaching a lot of classes, requiring a lot of lesson preparation, your own home practice can become neglected. You are giving out yoga wisdom, but you are too tired to replenish yourself with yoga. You can become jaded and end up teaching on auto pilot. The Almanac will encourage you to centre your own home yoga practice so that you are topping up your own energy, finding peace and relaxation, and, in turn, you’ll have more to give your students.

You’re feeling overwhelmed by other people’s problems…

Naturally, your yoga students want to share their joys, their trials, and their tribulations with you. It’s an honour and a responsibility to be trusted with their confidences in this way. However, it’s not helpful to the student or you if you take everyone’s problems on. You just end up feeling overwhelmed and resentful. The Almanac will help you to consider how to psychically protect yourself from becoming a sponge and internalising everyone’s emotional problems. By putting this layer of protection in place, you will feel energised and more able to be a loving, kind presence, who listens to students without getting overwhelmed.

Since you’ve started teaching you’ve fallen out of love with yoga

The Almanac will remind you of that initial enthusiasm that you felt when you first discovered yoga. I want you to get back in touch with that sense of curiosity that prompted you to study yoga to an advanced level. What was it that fascinated you about yoga? What still intrigues you? What aspects of yoga do you want to explore further? If you are fascinated by and immersed in yoga, that excitement will rub off on your students. If you can keep the flame of your own love of yoga burning, then you will be able to pass on the flame to your students. I want you to fall back in love with your own yoga practice, and in turn share that love with others.

You’re suffering from impostor syndrome…

The French have an expression bien dans sa peau which means feeling comfortable in your own skin. When you’re teaching do you feel comfortable in your own skin? Or are you teaching in a way that doesn’t feel true to yourself? Perhaps you are simply parroting words spoken by your own teacher. Or maybe you feel impostor syndrome. Are you feeling pressure to look a certain way, to talk a certain way, or to be the picture-perfect yoga teacher?

The Almanac will help you to discover the path of yoga that leads you home to yourself. You’ll be encouraged to find an aspect of yoga that you care about and that you feel you have something to say about. Passion is an overused word, but if you feel passionate about something it’s a great motivator.

Your Tutor

Jilly Shipway is an experienced yoga teacher and author of Yoga Through the Year, Yoga by the Stars, and Chakras for Creativity. Jilly wants the Yoga Teacher’s Almanac to be a space where yoga teachers can find a place of sanctuary and be nurtured and nourished. In this online course Jilly will share with you a treasure trove of resources which teachers can dip into to find inspiration for yoga practices, meditations, affirmations, breathing practices, inspirational quotes, readings, ideas for class themes, and handouts. Above all Jilly wants to help teachers to connect with their own Inner Wisdom and to reignite their passion for yoga.

Yoga Inspired by Celestial Wisdom

Each of the 12 monthly modules of The Almanac is inspired by one of the 12 zodiac signs. I have drawn from the symbolism and celestial wisdom of the zodiac to provide a framework for the course. However, no belief in astrology is required!

So, although the zodiac signs form a framework for our study together, you will find the astrological element of the course is very much in the background rather than in the foreground. And once again, let me emphasise that no belief in astrology is required to benefit from and get maximum enjoyment out of the course.

Fall Back in Love With Yoga!

Each month yoga teachers can dip into this online resource to find inspiration for yoga practices, meditations, affirmations, breathing practices, inspirational quotes, readings, class themes, and handouts. Meditation questions will help teachers to connect with their Inner Wisdom. The Almanac is a space where yoga teachers can find a place of sanctuary and be nurtured and nourished, and reignite their love of yoga.

Enjoy a no-pressure course

As a yoga teacher there are plenty of things you are obliged to do, I don’t want The Almanac to become a chore, rather I want you to engage with the course because it brings you joy, inspiration, and a sense of fulfilment. Consequently, there are no formal assignments or deadlines to feel pressured about. Although there are lots of exercises to stimulate your creative juices and get your ideas flowing.

Endorsements for Jilly's Online Courses

“Having read the brilliant 'Yoga Through the Year' book I was intrigued to try out Jilly's online Seasonal Yoga course. What appealed was the self-study aspect - this flexibility means that I can access the course when it suits me and for as much or as little time as I have available - I'll often pause part-way through a unit, make a note of the meditation questions and mull them over for a few days before coming back to the course later.

If you have been considering trying a course, I would say don't hesitate! I am sure you will love it as much as I do.”

Judy Brenan, yoga teacher

“The course was a great success, I loved it … I felt very supported all of the way, and I have learned a lot and gained the confidence to put my words further ‘out there’ in the form of blogs, and maybe one day the book I have rattling around in my head!”

Lindsey, Becoming a Yoga Writer course

“I enjoyed all the modules and the way it was organized in bite-sized, digestible pieces and I appreciated Jilly's feedback. I have really enjoyed this course and it has opened me up to expressing myself more confidently and I feel that is a tremendous step!”
